Elizabeth M. Sayler
Passed away on August 26, 2024
Elizabeth Miller Sayler, widow of John Milton Sayler, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 at age 90. She was born in Washington, DC on January 7, 1934 to Richard White Miller and his wife Elizabeth Kennedy Miller.
She graduated from the Holton-Arms School in Washington, DC and attended Sweet Briar College. She made her debut in December 1951 at the Sulgrave Club in Washington, DC and later met her future husband, Jack, in that city. Betsy and Jack were married on November 7, 1959 in St. Margaret’s Church, Washington, DC.
Betsy was past President of the Junior League of Savannah, past President of the Women of Christ Episcopal Church, and past President of the Women’s Board of Bethesda. She also served at State Treasurer of the National Society of the Colonial Dames in Georgia and was past Chairman of the Savannah Town Committee of that organization. She was a past Board member of the Savannah Home for Girls, and a past member of the Historic Savannah Foundation.
She was a member of the Junior League of Savannah, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Georgia, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Savannah Area Republican Women, a past member of the Married Women’s Card Club, and the Sulgrave Club in Washington, DC.
She is survived by her son, John Milton Sayler, Jr. and his wife Linda Mottice Sayler of Savannah, her daughter Elizabeth Sayler Youles and her husband Charles Richard Youles also of Savannah, and four grandchildren, Kathleen Hagood Sayler of Pompano Beach, FL, John Milton Sayler, III of Nashville, TN, Samuel McDowell Sayler (Jenna) of Birmingham, AL, and Elizabeth Shelby Youles of Savannah.
Services will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 on Thursday, August 29, 2024. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1 West Macon Street, Savannah, Georgia, 31401 or the Women’s Board of Bethesda, P.O. Box 14204, Savannah, Georgia, 31416.
